Key Verse: Joshua 5:7 He replaced them with their sons, whom Joshua circumcised. They were uncircumcised; their fathers had not circumcised them along the way.
Central Truth: The second circumcision of Israel reminds us. Humbling yourself, allows you to embrace God’s strength. . . .
Travelers Log: How the Lord’s Army prepares for war. Get right, before you go.
With one foot in the Promised Land, the Israelites are ready to conquer the world!
God stops them and says, “Men of War. . . Check yourself.”
I see a hundred thousand Jews turning around and going . . . Check WHAT?
The Israelite fathers had taught stubborn disobedience by not circumcising their children in the desert. Before they went in conquering the Promised Land, they had to stop and go back to the roots- remove their disobedience- and remember the Lord, the consuming fire who guided them from Egypt.
In my disobedience, namely guilt/shame, pride and stubborn behavior, I could go on and on. . . I build walls to prevent myself from loving people and God. Through brokenness of confessing my faults and sins in CR, my eyes were opened, walls broken. Obedience and confession allow God to remove my disgrace.
I write this know acknowledging my ragamuffin status, and my inability to do anything worthy of deserving grace. I’ve tried for years, to work out my own salvation with fear and trembling, in my head trying to justify grace, for me humanly unjustifiable.
God’s furious love stands in front of me everyday, and asks me gently, to remove what is holding me back from loving Him and His people more. God whispers, “Just take the next step.”
I cannot fathom the pain the Israelites went through that day, I’d have to relate it to taking a step- knowing my pinky toe will be hit with a sledgehammer- however, whenever I’ve taken a step towards God, no matter how much it hurt, God shows up and gives me strength to walk when I can’t.
The Lord your God is a jealous God, a consuming fire. Today . . . lose yourself in bringing Him praise.
“Humble yourself before the LORD and He will lift you up.” James 4.10
