Trusting God for Life- Luke 21

Key Verse: Luke 21.33-34  ”Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.

Central Truth: The Word of God is true and gives light and life for today that will last throughout eternity.

Often I hear, “Nice purse!”  “Cute skirt.”  “nice car, bro”.  -Is that giving you life?  Really?

Everything we have will burn up.  Gone.  The word of God will stand.
One day, Christ will come again.  Making everything broken in this world right and He will reign, with Mercy triumphing over Judgment.  Everything that is not God or of God, will burn up.

I chased parties and goals for over 5 years, thinking that the next football victory would give me hope or if I just got a scholarship to a DIV 1A school to play, or winning the WAC Championship or getting to the NFL.  And most of those I achieved, however I never found life there, just a yearning for more.  By God’s grace and mercy I didn’t make it to the NFL to play, it would have destroyed me.  Every time I achieved one of the previous goals, it was all about me.  I never realized that the only way to find life was to trust His word.  Give everything to God; partying, life, wealth, football, education, my sin, my victories, and let Him take them, just as He intended, and trust His Word.

You might ask, “So with this chapter about giving a widow’s mite and end times, why do you pick talking about the Supremacy of God’s word?”  and my answer might seem strange, “Because it’s ALL you have.”  The Word, Jesus Christ and the Spirit in your heart.   All else, without Christ, are idols.Jesus Christ died on the cross to own the punishment we continually inflict on ourselves.  He loved us so much, that He bore all our sin and took all our idols with Him on that cross, and allows us to receive His grace and mercy and come into relationship with our creator.  Realign life.

It’s so easy today to look at the person next to you, find a party to go to or a way to cope with the earthly delusion.  Trust the word, find life in Jesus Christ today, ask Him to reign everything that may come between you and Him.

What is most important to you?
What is your favorite thing in this world?
Is anything in your life worth coming between you and Christ?
Jer. 29.11 says “For I know the plan that I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to give you a hope and a future.”  Do you trust God for your future today?
