whatever you ask

John 14.13-14 – “And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.  You may ask me for anything in my name and I will do it.”

Move mountain!— dangit—- Move, in Jesus name. — Dangit.

I’ve never moved a mountain, don’t suppose I even have faith the size of a mustard seed.  I will say one thing though, there’s power in that name.  It is the name that is above all names; at the sound of it every knee will bow and every tongue confess that ‘Jesus is Lord.’ Philippians 2

I’ve always wondered why I have such a hard time believing in miracles, in a God who intercedes today.  I want this big God, but I’m offended when people talk of healings or miracles in this way.  I want Him to heal people, but can’t relate, why some and not others… But even in the end of all of it, that’s the question anyway, right?   The answer is – thank God you don’t get to, or have to, choose.

But God, beyond that – why suffering?

And the answer comes, forcing itself through reason and logic, past understanding straight into the hearts of men, cutting like a sword – To know Christ, and the fellowship of sharing in His sufferings.  To know Christ.

He is just and justifier, author and perfector of salvation, He is the way we get what we ask for, but GOD gets the glory.  Even from Jesus, “Not my will, but yours be done.”

The hierarchy of the trinity, an interesting question.  Something to think about studying.  Roles of God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, and positioning.

God, either way you’re good.  Help me to have a heart in line with your will for my life, and a mind to follow.

Always struggled with this “whatever you ask” thing, because I quickly relate it to prosperity gospel, and find myself enwrapped in a rage of fury at human words.  When the truth is, God says, “whatever you ask.”  Solomon asked for wisdom, I Kings 3, truth is, I think, God wants to give you more than you could ever ask or imagine, Ephesians 3.19-21.  So, whatever YOU ask, might be too small.

I think today, I’ll pray for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry it out.
