What’s the greatest thing you’ve ever prayed for and received an answer? -Mine was that the Lord would take my heart of stone and turn it into flesh. I know you read that and think, vague-ness, but I assure you, it is not. The Lord has done a work there, even to get me to this point, and it’s tangible. May not be visible to everyone, but it is tangible.-
Did you persist until an answer was given? Mueller would urge you, NEVER GIVE UP.
In a section called, answers to prayer-
“surrendering myself afresh…” Was a way Mueller mentioned himself after an answered prayer.
After another answered prayer, George says, “The joy to which answers to prayer give cannot be described…”
George persisted in his ministry at the orphanage without a regular system of collections, without personal application to anyone, “simply by faith and prayer…”
There is mentioned a period of about 10 years, in the pamphlet, that George mentioned needing to rely on the Lord for daily need. Then he was blessed for a season. Then this entry is shared…“it seemed the Lord meant to bring us back to that state of things… when we had to day by day, almost without interruption look to Him for supplies.”
Many instances are shared where George would wake without means to feed himself and over two thousand orphans, God would provide. Upon one evening there was absolutely nothing in the house for the next morning’s breakfast, all stores were closed. So Mueller and a visitor prayed, he never told anyone his needs, just God, and prayed. They went to bed and slept, and breakfastfor two thousand children was there in abundance at the usual breakfast hour. Neither knew how the answer came.
The story told at breakfast was, Simon Short of Bristol, was called out of bed by the “…Lord in the middle of the night to send breakfast to Mueller’s orphanage, and knowing nothing of the need, or the two men at prayer, he sent provisions that would feed them a month. This is like the Lord, God of Elijah, and still more like the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Amazing. How the Lord answers prayer. James 5.16b-18 The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced crops.
An answer from God, spurned this comment from Mueller, “It proves afresh that, if our work is His work, and we honour Him by waiting upon Him and we look to Him for means, He will surely, in His own time and way supply them.”
(more to come.)
