George Mueller on Real Faith. – I’ll put my thoughts in hyphens-
“Through faith we understand that the worlds were formed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.”
-We live in a present reality. This present reality is not all-inclusive. All things are not necessarily visible to our senses, God himself is felt and not necessarily seen in this day and age. Emotion drives action, per Tony Robbins, but God himself stands independent of this present reality, senses can’t fully feel him, words can’t fully describe the incomprehensible Almighty Lord. He is. I AM, He says. –
Faith is the exercise of belief in His promises. Rely on the Word of God. “The providence of faith begins where probabilities cease and sight and sense fail.”
Appearances today are not to be confused with faith. –if it appears so, it takes little faith to believe, however God is able to do more than we could EVER ask or imagine. –
“God delights to do good to others through them that they themselves throught the exercise of faith, may obtain an increase of it. Difficulties, limitations, hinderances, bereavements, and losses though we shirk exceedingly from them, are the very agencies that God uses to cause us to grow… a Christian is made strong by adversity.”
“Again, the increase of faith is dependant upon the individual’s attitude toward the method God uses for this purpose. Instead of wanting no trials before victory and no exercise of patience, the child of God must be willing to take these things from His hands as means of expanding his Christian life. Trials, difficulties, obstacles, griefs, necessities are al the very food of Faith.”
Take God’s hand as a means of strengthening Faith.
-The Churh today has made Faith, and easy solution. Pray a prayer of salvation, and all is ok. Sure. And God is good. –
-But we forget, the promise of persecution and suffering. We forget the blessing of endurance and perseverance, for the refinement of our character. Christ, has become this quick fix, without the positive refinement of our fleshly bodies. We find Christ and forget to deal with ourselves, to take sanctification seriously, forget the commands to die to self and follow, and just think we can “follow.” Is true, but are we missing something? –
“We dare not be satisfied to take the ideas which the Chruch and many professing Christians have of God, but we must come to the very fountain of knowledge, the revelation the Lord has made of himself in the living Word. In the Word, one is to pause often, to meditate and to adore. Here one is to drink deeply if faith is to flourish. There can be no substitute for the study of scriptures.”
Here we see the Gentleness, Pity, Beauty and Bounty of our Saviour.
The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.
If we could just see God as He portrays Himself in Scripture, and be satisfied in His dealings with us, for our own good.
-And this is where I found JOY. Something special about “being satisfied in His dealings with us,” clicked. Knowing that just where He has me today is none other then where a loving Father would have me. Showing me the things I needed to know forever, revealing to me wisdom in a time of worry, and showing me that even though the road seems dark, and may look like the ‘valley of the shadow of death’ that He is here with me. He in fact has been here, He has walked this road and done it boldly. He did it and died an early death, for my fullness of faith today. I have missed it. I have missed the Joy in knowing that this is, in fact, for my own good.
So often I think it’s punishment, or some big deal to refine something big… but I think the whole point is, whatever the mountain is… it’s the best thing He’d have for me. I don’t expect anything less for a guy like me. It ain’t supposed to be easy, and if it were, I wouldn’t much want it anyway.-
“The Church of God is not aroused to see God as the beautiful and lovable one He is and hence the littleness of blessedness.” – We don’t find Him in the little things, so we can’t see Him in the big things.
He will reveal Himself, we will know Him better.
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?
“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
-God, deal with me. Teach me to rely upon You, with the simplicity of a child. I take you at your word. There will always be difficulties, always trials, sustain me. Prayer prevails.
